Stand up for someone’s rights tomorrow!

Tomorrow, December 10 is Human Rights Day. It commemorates the day on which, in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. In 1950, the Assembly passed resolution 423 (V), inviting all States and interested organizations to observe 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day.

Stand up for someone at risk of discrimination or violence such as women, a homeless person, a minority group, a LGBT person, indigenous peoples, or anyone else in need.

Today through tomorrow, Columbia University graduate workers will vote on forming their union. Union organizers got a big boost today when none other than U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders wrote a letter encouraging fellow graduate workers to come together, participate in the vote and join the UAW.

"Dear Columbia University Research and Teaching Assistants:

I understand that on December 7th and 8th you will be voting in an election to determine whether TAs and RAs at Columbia will have the right to union representation. I had the pleasure of meeting with a number of you in September, and am strongly supportive of your efforts to hold a free and fair union election…"
